Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is UniBooks?
UniBooks is a second-hand textbook search and matching platform designed for university students in Taiwan. It uses ISBN-based book records so all sellers of the same title appear on one listings, making it simple to search, compare prices, and read condition details.
2. Is it free?
Yes. Campus meetup transactions in the same school have zero cost. The website collects no listing fee, no transaction fee, no hidden costs. Only when both parties voluntarily choose the shipping-plus-escrow service do we apply a single 4-5% service fee on the paid total — transparent at checkout.
3. Can I browse without logging in?
Yes. Search results and listing pages are publicly accessible without an account. Signing in is only needed for messaging, publishing a listing and waitlist notifications; messaging and listing also need a verified school .edu.tw email.
4. Why .edu.tw authentication?
Valid .edu.tw ensures everyone who trades or communicates is an actual Taiwanese university student, keeping the trust healthy.
5. Can I still use the account after graduation?
Yes. Your account continues to work but carries Alumn titles. Some on‑campus only features may become limited.
6. Do I need to re-verify?
Yes, every two years, to confirm you are still a student. 30 days before it expires, we email you a reminder and your account settings prompt you to renew. Verifying your school email again extends it by two years; if your account signs in with your school email and is linked to Google, signing in with that school Google account works too. Once it expires, listing books and messaging sellers are paused until you verify again.
7. How do I sign up and sign in?
Any email address works: enter your name, email and a password, and we send an activation link to your inbox. You can also create an account with Google. After signing up, verify your .edu.tw school email in Account settings; that is what unlocks listing books and messaging sellers. See Getting Started.
8. What is a passkey, and how do I use one?
A passkey lets you sign in with your fingerprint, face or screen lock instead of a password. Sign in, open Account settings, find "Passkeys" and choose "Add a passkey". Next time, click the email field on the sign-in page and your browser will list your passkey; pick it to sign in. Your fingerprint or face data is checked only on your device and never sent to us. If you have a passkey or a linked Google account you can also remove your password in Account settings.
9. I forgot my password.
On the sign-in page choose "Forgot password?" and enter your email; we send a reset link that is valid for 1 hour. The message on screen is the same whether or not the email is registered, so nobody can use it to find out who has an account.
10. Why am I asked to "verify you are human" when signing in or signing up?
To stop scripts from guessing passwords or sending mass emails, sign-in, sign-up and password-reset requests go through a Cloudflare Turnstile check. Usually it passes in the background and you see nothing; only when it cannot tell does it show a checkbox for you to tick. If it keeps failing, try another network or browser, or turn off extensions that block scripts.
11. How to sell a book?
Visit the selling page, enter the ISBN → our system retrieves the book's details (title, cover). Confirm the condition: pick the appropriate subject, upload real photos and set the price (including 0 if want to give). Then push submit.
12. Can I give away books for free?
Yes. Turning the price to 0.
13. How to manage pricing?
Look at comparisons from other ex-sellers and match your condition. Normally 30-70% of starting price.
14. What is Waitlist?
If a book you were looking for not yet listed, click the "Notify Me" button. When you an sellers publishes that book — you receive an alert email instantly.
15. What is “N people waiting”?
Number of waiters for the book indicates its popularity.
